Bryan Sollars v. Delmark Tire Service, Inc.
On September 26, 2000, Bryan Sollars, while in the course and scope of his employment with Delmark Tire Service, Inc., was changing a tire on a combine. The tire jack tipped, and Mr. Sollars suffered crush injuries to his pelvis and left arm. Mr. Sollars also initially suffered complete paralysis from the waist down on both sides. Due to the trauma, Mr. Sollars’ heart could not pump enough oxygenated blood. The lack of oxygen to the blood vessels in his eyes led to total blindness.
Mr. Sollars received extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation but still lives with extreme pain. Mr. Sollars’ claim was settled at mediation. The employer and insurance carrier agreed to pay Mr. Sollars $778,400.00, and fund medical accounts with a lifetime value of $1,172,068, for a total settlement of $2,058,718.00.
